Sizzling Product Updates

During each month of 2024, we released updates that made it easier for you to earn money on our platform. Check out the highlights below!

January: Flexible onboarding for new Taskers

Prospective Taskers can now review, understand, and set up a profile on the Tasker app before paying for their background check. This streamlined, in-app onboarding is a much smoother experience for anyone aiming to build a business as a Tasker—without upfront fees.

February: Robinhood retirement IRAs

We partnered with Robinhood to offer retirement IRAs for Taskers with a 2% boost in the first year of enrollment. Retirement accounts like IRAs have tax-deferred or tax-free growth potential, saving you more money for the long-term.

March: Updated client cancellation policy for client no-shows

We heard your questions and feedback about client cancellations, so we updated our cancellation policy to make sure you can get paid for an hour of your time in the event of a client no-show. Our goal was to help reduce client cancellations and bring more clarity to both sides of our marketplace, and so far, we’ve seen great results. (To be eligible for a cancellation fee payment in this situation, all you need to do is avoid any violations of our Terms of Service!)

April: Chat improvements

You can now create and save custom messages and seamlessly pull them into chats with clients. This means no more phone notes and no more typing the same message over and over again!

We’ve also updated the chat box interface to improve your overall chat experience, which includes a simplified method for adding photos and videos. To talk with your client directly, you can also place calls by simply tapping the “+” button followed by the phone icon.

May: New task category taxonomy

Midway through the year, we added new task categories and skills so you can more easily be matched with clients for the types of tasks you like most. Now that the rollout is complete and clients are aware of this change, matching you to tasks has become easier than ever.

June: More task options on the client app home screen

Did you know that we’ve increased task tiles on the client app’s home screen from 9 to 33, which has already resulted in more task invitations to Taskers? Clients are now aware of all our new tasking categories, which means more task opportunities for you. Moving forward, we plan to keep testing different user experiences for the client app to bring you as many task invitations as possible.

July: Personalized task suggestions for clients

In years past, we’ve shown the same task categories and recommendations to all clients without taking their individual booking histories and preferences into consideration. Now that we’ve rolled out our new task categories for clients, we’re testing out new personalized dashboards for those who arrive at our website in a logged-in state. By offering personalized solutions to them, we hope to drive repeat usage of our platform, which will lead to more tasks for you.

August: New tasking Challenges feature

We introduced a fun new way to earn even more money just for showing up as a Tasker. Now you can use your Tasker app’s Challenges feature to capture incentive payments for particular  tasking efforts in your area.

You can see active Challenges on the “Challenges” hub accessed through your “Performance” screen. Simply tap into a Challenge to check out the details of the incentive, learn how to earn extra money, and track your progress as you complete relevant tasks. Rewards are automatically deposited into your account once task invoices are submitted by the Challenge deadline.

September: More task information on your “Home” screen

We’re testing a new navigation bar that brings information from the “Tasks” panel onto your “Home” screen so you can quickly access relevant task information. We wanted to reduce the number of taps needed for you to find relevant information about your business—including pending tasks, tasks for today or the current week, and ongoing tasks.

October: New Homary partnership

In October, Taskrabbit partnered with home goods retailer Homary to bring you more clients for Assembly, Mounting, Electrical Help, and Plumbing Help tasks. These task invitations appear just like any other general marketplace tasks in the Tasker app.

More Taskrabbit clients on the platform means more tasking opportunities, and we’re always excited to market Tasker services on your behalf to help you grow your business!

November: New cancellation fee eligibility banner

When a client cancels a task, there’s now a banner in the “Task details” panel that lets you know whether the task is eligible for a cancellation fee. We know how frustrating it can be to have a client cancel a task at the last minute, costing you income that you were counting on. If your client cancels a task within 24 hours of the scheduled start time, we will automatically pay out the cancellation fee to you. You no longer have to contact Customer Support to collect these fees, which will save you time and hassle!

IMPORTANT: Please give our system 48 hours for the payout notification to come through before contacting Customer Support with questions. We know you were asking for this feature for a while, so we’re very excited to bring it to you!

December: IKEA US Integration

Last but not least, clients are now able to book prepaid IKEA Assembly tasks online and in-store. The date, time, and details of these tasks automatically appear in your task description—this means no more incorrect quotes. Because clients have already paid, this will lead to fewer cancellations, which we anticipate will lead to higher average weekly earnings for you.

We’re so excited about everything 2024 brought us, and we can’t wait to unveil what’s in store for 2025. Stay tuned!
