Pampered Pets: Home is Where the Pets Are

In 2024, home is where the pets are, and the data shows it! A recent study showed that 33% of millennials buy homes because of their dogs—not because of their partners or children—just because their dogs deserve the best. And we’re seeing a similar trend amongst Taskrabbit users. Not only are pet parents moving into more accommodating living spaces for their furry friends, but they’re making home upgrades specifically for Fido.

Task requests containing the words “dog” or “cat” are up globally across our most popular categories, including Furniture Assembly (hello, doghouses!), Mounting (cat wall, anyone?), and Yard Work (because yes, cats deserve their own patio).

Let’s dive into the data and explore how and why Taskers have become the go-to solution for keeping pets—and their parents—happy at home.

Taskrabbit: The Solution for Pet Parents

Pets are part of the family, and the day-to-day maintenance that comes with pet parenthood has many people turning to Taskrabbit to help keep to-do lists manageable. With cats and dogs around, more frequent cleaning is necessary to keep odors and pet hair in check. Cleaning Taskers have helped more pet parents than ever this year, with pet-friendly Cleaning tasks up 17% year-over-year.

Pet-related errands—like picking up pet food, medicine, or toys—spiked (up 42%), showing that pet parents are more interested in spending time with their furry friends than running errands on their behalf.

This was also the year we saw that being in the dog house might not be so bad. We saw a 52% year-over-year increase in tasks booked for dog houses and a 34% increase in requests for cat treehouses. Plus, Furniture Assembly Taskers built more pet beds than ever: 10% more cats had beds built for them this year, and there was a 12% increase in requests for dog beds.

What’s Trending in Cat-Approved Living Spaces

We’re not here to start any fights (yes, we love cats and dogs equally!), but cat parents have gone above and beyond to show their devotion this year.

We found that cat owners were 25x more likely than dog owners to book Furniture Assembly tasks. It seems to us that cats just have their owners trained better, which makes sense if you’ve ever met a feline yourself.

Home trends catered to cats have taken off on social media, and many pet owners are turning to Taskers to make their cat wall dreams a reality. We’ve seen a 92% increase in requests for mounting shelves for cats to climb and perch on.

Catios (aka cat patios) are also en vogue, with a 44% year-over-year increase booked in Yard Work. These backyard cat enclosures provide many benefits to cats, from keeping them safe from vehicles and other free-roaming cats to giving them access to the exciting sights and sounds of the outdoors!

But it’s not all about the cats. Owners did themselves a favor this year, too, by keeping the litter box out of sight (and out of smelling range) by having Taskers create litter box enclosures (up 89%), which is a win for everyone.

Taskrabbit: The Key to Keeping Pets Happy

Families have long used Taskrabbit to help free up busy schedules and spend more quality time together. This year, pet parents figured out that spending time cuddled up with their furry friends far outweighs cleaning up after them or assembling pet beds!

Next time you’re in the mood to pamper your pet, don’t forget that Taskers can run to the pet store to grab their favorite treats or build them a room of their own.
